That's It; I've Had Enough!
Vote Pierce for Senate

Wednesday, December 21, 2005
UPDATE!!! (10:20pm) -- ANWAR has been removed from the defense appropriations bill (commenter Matt is correct; DeWine supported a filibuster attempt, refusing to allow the people's representatives to vote). Yep, I feel REAL comfortable with the endorsement below. If we can't even drill in Alaska, how are we to open up drilling around costal California and Florida? A big win for the greens and a big loss for the American people.

PS: As I suspected, the Senate has agreed to extend the Patriot Act for 6 months, allowing Congress and the White House to negotiate a deal. Here's to the hope that the law is extended without some of the more objectionable items.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I have had enough of Sen. Mike DeWine.

DeWine's latest idiotic decision is to come out against America's energy independence by opposing drilling in ANWAR. I heard the rumor and called his office in Columbus to verify. Yep, a member of his staff told me that he would in fact come out in opposition. She told me that he has no plans to help filibuster the bill, but if you ask me -- he can't be trusted.

I have tried real hard, I really have. Sen. Mike DeWine seems like a decent sort of fellow. Maybe I was hoping that Mr. DeWine would endorse Ken Blackwell for Ohio governor and held back (if I did hold back, sorry!)

I have tried to ignore Mr. DeWine's big brother DUI hard handedness and his seeming willingness to try and solve any problem that comes down the pike with some big government federal "solution."

No more. When I saw that William Pierce was going to challenge DeWine for US Senate I knew that I was going to have to make a choice. For that is exactly what Mr. Pierce offers -- a choice (not an echo, as the old saying goes.)

My support for the United States Constitution and the rights of the American people mean more to me than any loyalty to the Republican Party or any candidate. As a small business owner, Mr. Pierce understands how the government stands in our way; even when it is trying to "help" us!

I do not endorse candidates lightly and have many times voted my conscience rather than party. For example: I voted for Pat Buchanan in the '88 primary and voted for whatever Libertarian candidate that ran that year. I cast a protest vote for Perot in '92 and sat out the '96 election. I refused to cast a vote to reelect Bob Taft and have called for his resignation.

My prior reluctance had nothing to do with Mr. Pierce himself; most of his positions are my positions. Color me convinced. Mr. Pierce is right -- the time for change is now. We need a senator that will keep himself firmly rooted in Ohio and will be receptive to out needs. Mr. DeWine has gone native. D.C. native.

For these reasons and many more, I heartily endorse William G. Pierce for the US Senate.
